DD and BrowellM - many thanks for the comments (DD - I am in West Kilbride about 25 miles from Glasgow).
The situation may be a bit more complicated though. I have the standard Business radio and no Nav systems, and I only have three options under the FM section:
Manual Frequency Selection
Autostore
Memorised Stations.
Hence I don't have an 'All Stations' menu option. RDS definitely works in that I can see the station name - it's just that it wont display on the Memorised Stations screen. Any further information I can get on this would be great (My Glasgow dealer Douglas Park couldn't help.
Seperately, we have had a lot of discussion on the board over RDS being disabled and I wonder if there is a common understanding over RDS and all the different components, the most useful one of which in my eyes is the AF part that retunes the radio to a stronger signal of the same station. This BBC link may be of interest to anyone wanting to know more about RDS (or rather RDS in the UK!)

PeterT,
RDS is working fine on my E60. Station names are being displayed in the memorised station section.
I have version 12.1.2. installed and no Navigation, just the normal Business radio.
As browellm mentioned. I had to reset all my stations after getting version 12 installed.
Hope that helps.

BMW530 - many thanks - I guess that's the answer I have been expecting...
Does the software upgrade also sort out RDS Auto Frequency: I don't believe this works on my car, and did you have the same symptom as shown on my pictures before you had the upgrade?

PeterT,
Not too sure about the RDS Auto Frequency but I will check tomorrow. I didn't have the symptoms you had in your pictures before the upgrade. However I tend to listen to cds more than the radio.

BMW530 - thanks. I'm away from the forum for a few days as I now work down in England but a colleague of mine there has a three week old E60 so I will have a look at his and make a comparison.
I much appreciate the discussion!

PeterT,
I thing to note but again not too sure whether its relevant. I have the Advanced Air Conditioning (which from your signature you don't have) this means that the I-Drive, On-board computer has one or two more functions e.g. Speed limiter and journey computer (you may have read another post on this). Anyway it may or may not affect the radio functions, so when you check your colleagues see if he has the Advanced Air Conditioning etc.
