My '06 530i has a sporadic, yet annoying, plastic sounding rattle coming from the left side of the dash area. The dealership has made one unsuccessful attempt at fixing it. It could be anywhere from the top of the dash to the A pillar or even the A/C vent. When it is hot and the plastic expands, it doesn't do it. I have tried pressing on everything while going over bumps, etc. Has anyone else experienced a similar rattle and if so, were you successful in eliminating it? Thanks.

My car has rattles from the curved roof of the dashboard. It sounded like coming from the left rear side of steering wheel, and I couldn't loate it until dealer test drove the car and was able to repeat the rattles by knocking on the curved roof of the dashbard.

Check the circular vent in the front of the dash and try holding your hands over the steering wheel buttons when the noise occurs.

My latest E60 has started to rattle in that left hand side dash area too, but my previous E60 didn't Its pretty annoying to say the least and if it weren't for the L7 I would probably be going mad!
My car's going in for its first service on Friday, so I will ask the dealer to have a look and see what they come up with...

That's what I did this morning. Holding my hands over the buttons = rattle goes away.
Too bad my warranty expired last October
I wonder if I can insert some really thin foam or something in the tiny crack between the button edge and its housing...
