The AWD isn't intended just to keep the wheels biting under intense acceleration or hp/torque. With european cars its more about quality cornering and traction in all climates/seasons IMO.

oh, makes sense. i guess that's why they aren't too common/desired here around the Dallas area in the states. the only extreme weather condition is in the summer. the temperature is 105 here today.

I think it varies on where you live, So Edkwok99 might not see any in LA. In the northeast there are tons. I was in Boston for 2 years and I saw xi's all of the time. Especially the 535. I'm surprised that you don't see any in Yonkers. Maybe drive into Weschester or NJ. There are at least 4 just in my community. One neighbor even has a 535xi wagon.
