The AWD isn't intended just to keep the wheels biting under intense acceleration or hp/torque. With european cars its more about quality cornering and traction in all climates/seasons IMO.

oh, makes sense. i guess that's why they aren't too common/desired here around the Dallas area in the states. the only extreme weather condition is in the summer. the temperature is 105 here today.

Not sure but it is jealousy etc. In the 1980s we parked our 320i at the mall and someone keyed the car on both sides front to back. It happens often.
