Radio Presets: How to change them?

My Ride: 2007 BMW 550i Sport Pkg, 6MT

OK. This is the procedure:
1. Go to Manual first and choose your station
2. Select Set->Store (in Manual screen). Now, you see Preset screen instead and the cursor (vertical bar) is on station 1.
3. Quickly scroll your iDrive knob to move the cursor (vertical bar) to the station number you want and press iDrive knob again.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.

HOORAY, HMC! That did it. I knew it had to be easy, but I just couldn't understand why it kept reverting back to #1--that's because I didn't advance the cursor laterally. Gee, ya think they could have said something like "quickly, scroll sideways to the desired numbered position, then click to lock."
And the best part is, I tried this while underway in traffic; take that Lawyers' Screen!
Many thanks; now if I can just get Weather Band...lol.

iDrive is indeed not as intuitive as it should be but it's not as buggy as people think either. BMW is trying to use a single knob to replace many buttons.
