Radio Cutting Out - What's the Deal?
Hey Guys:
I have a 2010 535 with hi-fi stereo and nav. Decided to not get the Logic 7 since I didn't like the sound of it and knew I would replace stuff anyway (plus needed a bit more green to get the 535 over the 528). I made the changes I needed to make and now have some audio issues! I installed the BSW speakers and a Rockforad Fosgate 500w mono sub amp with 2 12" Sony subs in the trunk. I hijacked the line out to the "subs" under the seats for the LOC to send the signal to the amp (I experimented with the raw signal line going into the the factory amp and found I got better bass from the signal going to the stock under-seat "subs".) 4 guage wiring is installed for the new amp and ground wiring (the remote lead is coming the the stock amp as well).
The issue I am having is this: With the stereo playing I get random radio cut outs for a second or two. This happens regardless of the radio volume and can happen immediately after I start driving or possibly an hour into a drive - no rhyme or reason to the timing, accessories on at the time, or other clues I could discern. After a few cut outs, then I get error messages popping up. Most of the time it is a DTC error saying it has malfunctioned and I must drive safely. Sometimes I get a shift lever error, but that has only happened twice. These errors clear once I turn the car off and it has so far not affected drivability although it does have me a little spooked!
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I have read the car is a bit of a sissy when it comes to voltage swings, but this seems a little beyond just a voltage thing? I don't know. I get absolutely NO ERRORS when I drive with the radio off and had no issues before the amp and speakers were installed. Any and all help/advice would be appreciated. By the way, with this setup the sound is GREAT - when I can play it. The subs are pointed into the car and I have no issues with not getting bass into the car as I read on other posts. BONUS FEATURE - people in the rear seats get a great back massage at higher volumes!

You can try adding a capacitor for around $80 to alleviate the voltage swings.

Not sure if I undertand in your OP, but where are you grounding the amp to?
On my setup, I tap the factory amp signal with a line out converter and the amp is grounded to a fuse in the trunk.
It, seems like where ever you borrowed the ground from, it's disrupting the ground signal for your entire setup. Try relocating your ground to another location.
