This is my first BMW and coming from an Infiniti G35 coupe to 550i is a giant leap for me. This car is truly a blast to drive, and now I know why they call these cars the ultimate driving machine. I use mass transit to commute to work, but everyday I look forward to getting home to take her out for a spin.

The V8 is so intoxicating,I have now develop a heavy right foot

Quick question, the car is under BMW warranty until July of this year and I wanted to know how many of you guys opted to extend your factory warranty once it was out? What factors did you guys consider when deciding to purchase the extended warranty? I only drive about 6K a year and the car currently has 44K on it now. I plan on keeping it for along time...

I'm taking it in to the dealer on Thursday, so they can check my battery. For some reason it died while I was getting the car tinted. I guess maybe due to the car being in ignition mode for an hour while they put on the tints. I will also have them check the transmission, the car kind of kicks when it's not warmed up.

My 550i and for some eye candy for you guys my buddy's M5.

Nice car!

I say extend your warranty through the dealer, avoid any of that aftermarket bs you might see on tv. I have an '04 545i and experience small problems from time to time that can be really expensive. Most I fix elsewhere but it would be nice to go to the dealer and have it all covered if I could...

I would go with a reputable 3rd party warranty. The factory warranty doesn't cover electronics, which considering there are somewhere near 26 computers in our cars is ridiculous. I found this out the hard way when I needed to replace the CCC unit (iDrive/NAV) and the TCU (Bluetooth) - dealer wanted close to $3000 for it.

The transmission and CCC news is quiet disconcerting, I thought these car were solid? I was going for 335i and the fuel pump issue scared me away. After doing reviews, I found many owners not having too much issues with their 550.

Agreed, the 550 is a more solid car than we might be letting on. However, stuff happens, even to the best of cars. Better to be fully protected than be caught with a huge bill. Looking back I know I'll never do CPO again, just give me a 3rd party warranty with a decent deductable and I'll be good. Fact is CPO doesn't cover much when you look at the fine print and what is covered are the items LEAST likely to have an issue.

Thanks for the insight so far fellas. I have much researching to do on warranties between now and July. I definitely don't want to be caught out there with any major repair expenses, especially been as I'm already paying a car note...

Congrats on the new ride. My warranty ends in November and I'm leaning towards going 3rd party as well and developing a great relationship with a great indy BMW mechanic.

Gorgeous car! Where/How much did that tint cost you? Is it 20%?

We would love to have you and your buddy come to the NYC Coding Meet/Drive. https://5series.net/forums/topic/109...ing-meetdrive/
