Just disable your DRL's via iDrive. The light switch in the off position should not have the AE's on anymore...

On a stakeout or stalking someone in your e60?

Cool. And no, not really stalking, but I was just coming up with scenarios and I thought about how the AEs could become a problem.

im not sure i understand your dilema?

angel eyes are the "side lights" of your car, and should be on in ALL lights on functions ie:

side lights (first position) angel eyes
dipped beam (second position) angel eyes + dipped beam
main "full" beam (second position-stalk forward) both headlights (dipped/main + angel eyes)

its just that with dipped or main beam its hard to see the dimmer angel eyes (but they should still be on)
cure is to fit the upgraded led markers, then you can see the angel eyes no matter when, even in sunlight.
on my car with dipped headlights you can see both angel eyes very clearly with the led markers fitted.

good luck.

Thats starting to make sense to me thanks, Sorry to ask a silly question but what do you mean by 'upgraded led markers' ?

your standard angel eye "side lights" are powered by either (depending on xeons or not) a 5w bulb in each angel eye (top) or a largeish "marker" light (one for each side)
if you have the non xeon lights (ie normal h7 bulbs) then all you need to do to make your angel eyes very bright (and not dim yellow) is buy 4 led bulbs (small spade type) from ebay and just pop them in (2 mins job)

if you have bi xeons then you need to buy a pair of led marker units (approx ?40 ebay again) and just pop the units in (again plug and play)

result is very bright white angel eyes that you can see in daylight or with your normal headlights on
fantastic mod and so easy to do.

only down side is...on some cars with normal 5w spade type bulbs it can throw up a warning message on your screen saying "side light failure" (they will work fine) but as led bulbs are lower voltage the system thinks there is nothing there so gives an error message.

good luck

Thanks for the reply
I have the standard non xenon lights. Would this be the type of LED's i would need?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E39-E53-E60-E87-X5-LED-MARKER-ANGEL-EYES-KIT-7000K_W0QQitemZ250306911785QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250306911785&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Also would i therefore need 2 pairs, one for the sidelights and one for the main beam?
Cheers

NO...dont get these...they are only for xeon lights
you need the small (spade type fittment)
original ones were 5w so you need about 10 w (led) ones they look like white small blubs (loads on ebay) cost about ?10 for 2, and you need 2 packs (ie: 4 bulbs)
