Hi everyone,

I've been a long-time lurker here. I just recently got a 2007 550i and have a few questions. I'll post pictures when I get the chance. Anyway, the car plays MP3 audios (from CDs) and has an AUX port, but I want to be able to control my iPod from iDrive. I read that you require a cable for this? Also, my car doesn't have navigation and would like to integrate it. I've read that this can be very expensive but I'd still want to hear how this was done and how much money was involved.

Thanks in advance!!!

you will need to install a dension to be able to control your ipod via iDrive. The LCI e60's have a USB option that allows you to control your iPod via iDrive, unfortunately yours does not.

Not sure about the Navi retrofit, I'm sure a quick search will get you some answers tho..

Thanks! Don't I have the option to get the USB interface from the dealer and have it reprogrammed?

AFAIK, no you do not have that option to get that retrofitted by your dealer....that's why most go the dension route...

There is also an OEM iPod adaptor which I had in my old 545. Have not played with the Dension offering but it apparently has more functionality than the BMW offering. But the OEM work just fine for me...

Edit: Keep in mind this OEM kit is NOT the USB interface we have in LCI cars.

to the forum. I just asked my dealer about OEM adapter and the SA said that I would have to plug in the iPod from inside the glove box. I don't like hat option and I'm just going to stick with the AUX and MP3s. I'm leery of adding 3rd party electronics as that might provide BMW with fodder to refuse warranty work by blaming the 3rd party device for any electrical relatd problems. They even have a disclaimer in the manual against adding non-OEM devices.
