My current 545i is steptronic which without a doubt is the best automatic I have ever driven. I test drove an M3 with SMG and thought it was great; heres my problem, I use my car for work, and not just to and from.

I run a small business which requires me to call on customers where I'm forced to valet park, I'm concerned that many of these guys won't know how to drive my car, this could be a huge problem.

What kind of experiances have you guys encountered? I know SMG rocks, but I have to be a little practical sometimes.

Thanks

I have customers in the car at times as well and no problems. The valet issue is a different story. Most times they have seen it before, I just remind them to leave it in gear and use the parking brake.

If you're talking about some of the valets in S. Florida at residential condos, etc., you might be able to ask them if you can park it yourself. It's likely that valets at restraurants will have more experience with SMG than valets at condos.

Either way, I wouldn't let the fear of valets cause you to decide against an SMG -- they're way too fun to drive to miss out just because of a few clueless valet parking attendants...

Very practical transmission. Once you learn how to drive it, it'll be as smooth as a steptronic and your passengers wont know the difference. Given you are not trying to show them your 0 to 60 time... That can be a little head bobbing... Other wise its smooth as silk.

Valet... whats that? Never used it before.

I agree.. I just got mine on friday and it only took me a few blocks to learn to drive it and its as smooth as Steptronic. Only problem i have with it is sometimes when i shift from 1 to 2 its a little jerky.. but its me i just have to learn that part of the SMG. Otherwise its great i'm gonna order it as long as they offer it

I have SMG. I will ALWAYS have SMG from now on.

I valet park all the time. If I am worried, I simply remind the valet to park with the hand brake on, or else it will roll. That has always been sufficient.

I don't see what damage a valet could do to the SMG transmission. It's idiot proof.
