Maybe a dumb question... but I have the FTM system and my 167's came with the TPM valve on each tire. Do I need to change the valve or I can still use the current TPM valve on the 167's. Lets put it this way, what is the best thing to do?

Khooger, Please modify your title from "Question" to something more specific about the FTM/TPMS, for browing purposes for other members.

Are you putting new tires on the 167's? Standard operating procedure is to change the valve stem when changing the tire. Since you have FTM not TPM, you don't need to pay for sensor, just regular old valve stems are needed so I personally would lean to changing the valve stems IF you are changing tires.

You can use the TPM valves... it'll just send signals to nothing... since your car wont have the receiver to take it in.

What's actually the difference between FTM (Flat Tyre Monitor) and TPM (Tyre Pressure Monitor) other than FTM doesn't need sensors on every wheel and the TPM does...in terms of funtionality?

I guess the FTM only alerts you of a flat or loss of pressure on the tires as the TPM shows you which tire. Anyone?

Almost, but not quite correct.

FTM uses the ABS sensors to detect differences in rotation speeds between the tires. Underinflated tires will rotate at a diffferent speed, and set off the system. FTM does not directly measure pressure, and cannot detect situations where all four tires gradually lose pressure.

TPM has sensors in the wheel that measure the pressure in the tire, and transmit it to the car.
