OK I searched for about 20 minutes and then gave up LOL.....

We have a 06 525xi that has been great, bought it CPO two years ago with about 36000 miles and now has around 58000 miles. A few months ago we noticed the brakes squealing at low speeds..... drive thru's, ATM's, intersections, etc. Very annoying and kinda embarrassing LOL......Took it to the dealer where we bought it and they said the pads are fine but the sensors have gotten "squared off" and that is what's making the noise. They won't warranty it, but offered to fix all four wheels for ~$600. BUT, they won't promise that it will fix the squealing, so I could end up paying the cash but drive away with the same problem. The service advisor said that I could drive at a "decent pace" in reverse and hit the brakes hard several times which might reverse the squaring of the sensors; sounds lame to me and a poor attempt at a band-aid fix.

Anyone else experience this? Suggestions, comments?? TIA.

How many miles are on the pads? You always have the option of purchasing new pads & sensors. For example, I sell the Hawk HPS pads for $115 (FRONT) and they come with brake sensors. Have someone install it for ~$30-$50 and you should be squeak free for $165. Other benefits would include, better stopping power and lower dust than the OE pads.

Also, did the SA say why the sensors are squared off? Is it because you need new pads?

I don't know how many miles are on the pads now; I know we haven't had them changed since we purchased it and would bet that they are still the stockers which if they are then they have around 58k on them. The SA said this is a normal "occurence" with the 5 series cars.... he insists that the pads have plenty of life left but maybe he's just looking at what the Idrive says?? I have no problem with paying to take care of the problem, but paying for his suggestion of "rounding off" the sensors with no promise that the problem would be solved is something that I won't do. If you think that replacement pads that include new sensors will take care of it, I will gladly make the purchase and get them installed to see what happens; I googled your site, are these the correct front pads?
