My Ride: 2010 M5 alpine white, black full leather, etc.
Computer softeware update (I think it was V25?) completely solved the problem for me. I had exactly the same thing. Incidentally this issue has been discussed a number of times here. Also it might be useful to check the ethanol content of your gasoline. Now the vehicle is silky smooth. You do not have to live with roughness.

I think you might be on to something with the grade of gas issue , a friend of mine never put premuim fuel in his X5 V8 and had a knock and shudder at idle. He changed his gas and..... bingo problem solved .
