It all depends on how well the owner takes care of the car. Use abrasive cleaners to clean the car and you'll get peeling. Dont use wax or trim protectant for cars under the sun a lot you'll get UV damage. A little effort twice a year just to apply some protectant will go a long way.
Questioning German quality, try taking a Japanese car out on the track for a day and try taking a German car on the same track for a day you'll be able to feel that the Japanese car (minus the GT-R and sports dedicated cars) comes back all loose and sloppy.
