Hi, I was driving down a two-lane highway one night when an oncoming driver of a large GMC SUV flashed its highbeams at me from a distance. I flashed the car back too see if maybe the driver accidentally flashed me, but it flashed back again. Must be one of those anti-HID/Xenon people.

One time I had occassion to follow someone who kept flashing at other oncoming cars with Xenon lights. Everytime this person did that, I flashed him from behind. Seriously, I don't think that HID lights are that glaring. I actually enjoy seeing the crisp, blueish hue from a distance.

Does anyone else here get flashed at often?
Personally I've never been flashed at but then I don't frequent places where its a possibility

Wow, I haven't been active on this board for months... only to find this discussion still going? ( or is it just that it was legendary....)

Those were the days...

Unfortunately I didn't get the xenons. Would have liked to though.

I'm surprised at the intolerance shown by fellow BMW 5er drivers. It's the kind of attitude that I'd expect from 318i drivers.

Most xenons are very annoying to other drivers. If you live in a flat country, then you probably don't understand. And the fact that it's difficult to hear or see with your head up your arse I very often get blinded by xenons, when you go around corners, or over hills. It doesn't bother me, but you do need to be careful when driving. Especially on UK roads, there's little room for error, and the last thing you need when going around a corner is to be blinded (can't see edge of road) by an oncoming car.

Xenon + hill/corner + wet/shiny road = not fun for others.

Whilst I like (and prefer to have) xenon lights, which will only get more common, I do understand why others don't like them. Or rather, they don't like being on the receiving end of them. Perhaps others could be a little more understanding, and realise that they aren't the only ones on the road.

This just happened to me tonight. Driving home and coming down the hill. There was a Mercedes E-class in the opposite direction turning to my right as I came to the intersection. All of a sudden the Mercedes had an eplilectic seizure. The Mercedes headlights went all crazy high-beaming me off and on continuously for a few seconds. My parents were in the car asked me what is going go? Told them dunno. I flashed my highbeams back once to indicate they were not on but now they are. As the Mecedes turned left, my right, I left the highbeam on.

As I continued on, I came to realized that I did not flash my highbeams. But, really what I did was flash my inner lights. Doh!
