Pros and Cons Of Runflats
I assume from your specs that was the infamous style 124 wheel that split. I believe you are the third to have the experience if that is the case. I cracked two all the way around.

My RFT did exactly that RAN FLAT. What POS the Dunlop's that came on the car lasted a mer 20,000 miles. besides the fact that they where incredibly noisy, had poor handling characteristics and jittered down the road, wandering all over the place I was still inclined to replace them with another set of RFT's. I spent the last 2 days searching the south land for a set of RFT's No one had them at all. Dunlop's, Bridgestone's, not anywhere to be found. Finally found a set of S03's (GREAT TIRE) apparently the last set in my size in California. So Guys be forewarned if your getting close to needing new tires start looking for them today.

Has anyone experienced or heard of endemic problems with runflat sidewalls?? I was just told that I must replace three tires.? In thirty years of driving I've replaced one tire with a sidewall problem, and that was from a curb, not a pothole.? Now I've got three in less than a year.? FYI, tires are Goodyear Eagle runflats on 330xi w/about 25k nearly-all highway miles.

Asside from the poor ride and noise that most talk about are there any real advantages?
I do notice they take potholes much better than a regular ZR tire

That being said, I have not noticed any "poor ride" or "excessive noise" on my 545i run flats (although I have read many posts to the contrary) -- although I have seen some posts stating that tread life is good (>20,000 mi for a high performance tire). Tirerack indicates the run flat Dunlops are a W rated tire with AA traction grade and A temp grade (a max performance summer tire). Perhaps, I too am lucky that I got a good batch of Dunlops.

[/quote]I don't think you are lucky. I think you have a later batch of Run Flats. I maybe wrong but I am at 8700 miles and have no uneven wear, I think she will go 20,000 without a problem although I will probably change them earlier as i am on a 3 year lease. I hope I am right.

As someone who has just had a huge nail pulled out of one I have a couple of other observations.
1. Conflicting information on whether they are repairable: My dealer says yes, if on tread of tyre. Two tyre repair shops say no, this forum seems split; two other tyre places say yes
2. You have no spare, you have a puncture and you need to go on a long journey.
The dealer can't help as he is 40 miles away (and out sources his tyre fitting anyway, plus they don't open on Sundays). You phone a dozen or so tyre places all of whom don't carry this tyre in stock ("we don't get much call for those") all quoting two to three days delivery
3.The first place that says he can repair it needs to hot vulcanize it. That will take him twenty four hours (remember my trip + the ride is really poor on three wheels!). The second will have a go but informs you, "those runflats are a nightmare to get on and off we might scratch the rim"
I put this information forward because it has all happened to me in the last two days, and? I had never given any thought about what I would do in this scenario.
In the end I've found a good tyre place who have the right machine for dealing with runflats, (on and off). They have carried out a good repair IMHO and all for ?10 including valve, balancing and VAT
With only 1400 miles on the clock it's too early to make a judgement, but when it comes time to change I will be considering quality 'normal' tyres and a spare.
Maybe the solution is to all buy an extra tyre and store it- just in case!

I had Run flats on my 530D, i've just changed them after 15K for 4 Bridgestone S03 Pole Positions, the improvement in ride is very noticable, but the main improvement is in grip.
My 530D has got 18s on it and Dynamic Drive and with the run flats I found the ride to be very hard and I had very bad traction problems, this could also have been down to 460 lb ft of torque at 2000 rpm, but with the Bridgestone the ride is much smoother with mases of grip.
I have the optional spare in mine plus 2 cans of tyre weld.

Yes I do have that style and I am proud to be number 3.
