I took my 2007 530I into the dealer last tueday and I got them to do an update by telling them a few key issues. This is what has happened.

1 Car was left over night to program and didn't complete until noon the next day. The dealer had to install a new radiio. They said the radio was not compliant to the current software version.

2 They installed the new radio and waited a day for BMW NA to supply activation codes.

3 Today the car is being programed again.

Is this normal?
Is it worth getting an update?

I am not worried, because it is covered under warranty and I have a loaner; but, I will think twice next time to get an update.

Do others have a similar experience, and what was the outcome? Was it worth it?

Atleast you got your dealer to update your software. Most of us have a hassle. You shouldnt worry and plus your getting a new radio! GL

Dont get me wrong, I think the dealer is great. Would highly recommend them if you are in the Toronto Area " Toronto BMW".

I now understand why dealers don't want to do updates, it is a real pain for them. I guess by your response, it is normal for program updates to take days and not go smoothly.

Ill let you know the outcome,

Thanks,

One experience I've had with s/w update [1 in the past 12 months] done on my car ('07) is that all of my "settings" revert to the default or as when the car was delivered; that included radio presets, BT Profiles, seat memory, etc.

I liken it to reinstalling the operating system on a PC ... not merely performing patches and updates.

Wonder if I should tell my dealer to take steps to store my personal settings ?? Any advice would be welcome.

Mine is a 2004 and I go mine done recently to enable my ipod interface, i dropped the car off at 8:30 and got a call by 11:45 saying it was done. My software is now August 10 2006. I am not fussed about being on the very latest version, I am happy with just being able to use my ipod. The software is improved though, there is also now an option for daytime running lights that wasnt there before + the menus seem quicker.

Good luck.

I had mine done a few months back..had similar experience. Took them 4 days, 6-7 hrs into it each day, it would crash. Finally on day 4 they decided to replace the Active Steering module, which they said is why it kept crashing. Update made it all the way through with out crashing after that.

Anyone knows what you gain with the new update? What version is this?

iPOD on 2004? I didn't think there is such option on the 2004! My car is a 04/19/04 build...
