Just jumping in here to tell that the temp on my 525d '04 was around 67C with an outside temp of 0C... Until I changed the EGR thermostat today.. Now it is running on app 85C... I do have shutters... Can't tell I notice a difference on the MPG yet... But happy with the temp increase, at least in cold weather up north here in Norway

Been following this thread carefully. So can anyone actually say their fuel consumption has improved to what BMW claims the car should be?
I am just wondering if turbo cars are going to be troublesome in things like this. A hose cracked or EGR, etc. I am getting worried. Perhaps my purchase to try the 535d might turn out to be a nightmare. Anyway the other day with just some town driving the temperature was at 101c. Wonder if that is bad.
cheers

Meantime the car is booked at the dealership (for two days) to get the boot spoiler, rear manual blinds and phone adapter fitted. I will ask them to check why the fuel consumption is heavy although i doubt very much this will be sorts. Will also ask them to change the gearbox oil in the car and engine oil. Car has done 7000 miles now.
Tyre pressures are always checked weekly and pumped to the amount states on the door. The only other thing I can think off is to charge the battery while the car sits in the garage overnight just to make sure everything is running at optimum.

OK, so here's the new full tank brim to brim MPG numbers after replacing EGR therm.;
I covered 802kms and had to put in 56,5 liters.
This converts to; just over 7L/100km OMG!!
Lets see how the next brimto brim will be...

Now replaced my EGR thermostat.
Temp has gone from 68 to 83C. This is on a 2004 E61 530D SE Auto (with flaps behind the grille!).

I drove to London Gatwick yesterday from Lincolnshire at a steady 80mph and back again, filling before I left, and filling when I got back, managed 42mpg, stupid onboard computer said 53.1mpg because of the tuning box I have plugged in sadly.( More fuel pressure being used than the OBC realises I suspect )
