It has been raining cats and dogs in Houston lately. Everytime I drive in the rain it is a problem with Active Steering failing to initialize. The problem doesn't pop up during driving, but I get the message the next time I start the car if within a short period after driving in the rain. However once it dries off, everything is back to normal. What could be the problem? Please help.

Have you tried turning the wheel all the way to the left, then right. I've heard something like that can reinitialize the steering angle sensor.

Yeah, the problem is, if I leave it in the garage overnight, it reinitializes. I'm just trying to find out why it does that whenever it rains. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Your battery is not charge enough or its time to replace,
i have the same problem everytime when i leave my car 2 or 3 days without driving.
It will disappear after a good 30mins drive i expect.

Thanks, but I doubt it is the battery because it only does it when it rains, and moreso my battery was replaced a couple of months ago. I get the feeling there is a sensor cover that keeps getting wet and acts up until it is dry. I wonder if the is an Active Steering sensor anywhere.

Do you only get this malfunction message only or with a combination with Stability malfunction? i recently had this fixed after dealing with this for a while, apparently i had damaged a component while bottoming out on my giant speed bump at his complex and its has caused a short.

This is a long shot, but I would also check the active steering fluid reservoir. The cap is marked CHF-11S Only and it sits behind the coolant reservoir.

Interestingly enough, I did the very first time it happened, but once again it cleared itself; however, every other time it has just been the Active Steering failure by itself. Do you know what component was causing the short? Thanks.
