hehe..nice "discussion"
no doubt, I'll support any country that makes available a great car at reasonable prices, both to acquire and maintain, see: fuel prices.
- nevertheless that doesn't mean that everyone Stateside can afford a V8 BMW, even at the price that it's going, it's out of reach for the proportion of population that fall below the average of the figure stated in ABC's table. for +300million people that's a lot of unhappy non BMW drivers :'(
In fact, you have to be on a good salary to afford any type of BMW in the US. Guess what, the same applies anywhere...
What most people tend to forget in Europe is that the prices seem very cheap possibly in comparison to their salary - social benefits acquired here.
"there ain't no free lunch buddy" comes to mind

True, but what kind of job do You think a person need in Denmark to pay 160.000 USD for a 520i E60 You can?t loan or rent anything in Denmark on Velfare! Thats for sure. I know that there?s alot of poor people in USA, but there is also alot of NON BMW drivers here! They drive 85? VW Golf II 1.3 or dont have a car. If you want velfare i Denmark, You have to go pick up trash in the park! And it doesnt pay any good.

Hi,
In Australia, a new E60 530i with Business Navigation, sunroof and bluetooth, you're looking at about A$130,000, or US$102,500.
I get annoyed sometimes when people think of a E60 just as a car and are able to replace every year or two. Over here, it's an expensive luxury car that many would keep for at least 6 years.
I bought my E60 530i with 13,000 Kms for A$86,000, so it had depreciated quite a bit before I bought it.
Cheerz

Simply a big market, that means quantity, that means competition, that means lower price. Healthy competition!
EU has an obscure delay on this matter and that's not a good sign for us.

Off topic: it's quite popular in Europe to publicly bash the U.S.A. these days. I would like to apologize for this - not everyone in Europe thinks like this.

BMW's new CEO, the premium segment accounts for 30% all car sales in Germany, whereas in the U.S. it's only 11% - the world average being below 10%. Maybe that's one reason?
100% in Germany?
100% in USA?
100% in the world?

I suppose it's pecentages of each market. I practise I don't know what the numbers mean. The U.S. market is quite bigger than the german market.

When quoting percentages we need to be made aware of what 100% represents.

Yep. There are over 300 million people in the USA.
The USA is the single largest market for BMWs in any one country. That's part of the reason why we get them so cheap. Bulk quantity discounts.

BTW, of course the percentages I quoted in the post above relate the size of the premium segment to the size of total market in the individual regions (or world respectively).
