I think there's an EU regulation that they cannot charge excessively for RHD cars or prohibit continental dealers from ordering them for English customers. I know this was a big thing a while back - gradual harmonisation of car prices across EU countries. Don't know what the poutcome was.

You are right but the manufacturers come up with a load of bull about the extra administration associated with special orders / deliveries.
They must all have very well paid clerks

I wish this comparison was done on a fully loaded, fully taxed M5 for each country.
The USA M5 does not have some of the options that the fully loaded cars sold in other countries do.
Fully taxing each car would be valid as it shows the true cost of ownership in each country.
That 81,000 M5 in Illinois would truely cost 7% more due to Illinois state taxes. So 86,670.
I think we are comparing apples and oranges here.

M5 interior trim? Check
Xenons? Check
Screw everything else then, the above would do me (and probably a couple of Danish guys
) just fine if I could get it for the Illinois price. Now I know why there are so many Polish people in Chicago - they all emigrated to get their M5's
Seriously though, I think the M5 is one of very few cars which is sold in a very similar spec Worldwide. This is probably the closest you can get to a motoring BigMac index equivalent.

i have had 3 new 530d se auto leather nav xenon etc. from a local dealer over last 6 years all have cost me the base price uk 530dse about ?29995.00 and all traded back after 2 years at a massive saving. derived from belgium and france. ecxtended the uk warrenty by 1 year for ?700.00 for the first one .no problems at all . average uk price has been, ?39995.00 at bmw uk.unfortunately the euro is stronger so the dealer is now selling mercedes at discounts similar.to the bmw i had.they can source cars to order from eu dealer stock.
