I wonder if anyone from Denmark could post what is the price of the M5 net of local taxes. This will be probably the lowest of any country which is why historically Denmark has always been THE place to buy tax free cars for export to other countries.

I think the TAX in Denmark is 180% on luxury cars, so the figure would be around $165,000 still.

Probabaly completely wrong on that though!

Apparently the system in Denmark is:

Base Price

ADD 25% VAT

ADD Car Registration Tax @ 90% on the first 45,000 DKK

ADD Car Registration Tax @ 180% of the remainder

If the after tax price is as shown above I reckon it would be about ?80,000 US dollars before tax.

Absolutely staggering.

I am also wondering - is the USA figure net of taxes (not sure what the system is)

If you net off the VAT in the UK it is still $100,600 dollars or so

So will BMW Denmark sell me a tax free 80.000 USD M5 for export?

I then pay 22% local VAT and excise tax at 3% of the car's value and end up paying 100.000 USD which is less than the cost of my 530d when new. Car will have an EU-wide warranty. This should also work for other EU countries - did anyone on here buy their BMW offshore? I did this once succesfully with a Renault Laguna - buying it new, tax free in Denmark but went through a Danish broker rather than a Renault dealer.

I was driving next to a E60 M5 (danish!!!) this weekend, here in Copenhagen, Denmark!

This country really sucks when it comes to cars.... Many people here in Denmark drives Kia, Mazda, and other cheaper cars, due to the taxes...
Not only is Denmark topping the list here. When you consider that the owner of that M 5 probably paid, what 65% of his income in tax, yet still could afford a $300,000 car, he must be taking in some serious dough.

On the plus side, in Denmark you can have a BMW diesel. I would love to drive one of those here in California.

I will be driving my new European Delivery 530 in my native Denmark (R?rvig/K?benhavn) week 26 - 28. See ya?

Well I could go and buy an M5 Tax free from Denmark and then pay the UK vat I guess which would work out around $20,000 cheaper than buying it from BMW UK, however, I would only get 2 years warranty and probably have to pay another $5k for Right hand drive in the end saving around $10k, and it would be a mare to sell come resale, so no real advantage.

You could order also a right hand drive!!

BMW makes both, so ordering shouldn't be a problem
