When changing out my CDV, I notice oil around the Power Steering Pump and surrounding area. The dealer is replacing the Power Steering pump under CPO, but I don't think I've ever heard of the pump itself leaking. Is that common? In the e39 Power Steering fluid was usually leaky from the power steering hose. Anyone ever see a PS pump on a 550 (w/ Active Steering) leak?

Thanks'

Check your valve cover gaskets first. It is very common for the oil to drip right down on top of the pump. I too at first thought the pump was leaking, but its the valve cover gaskets.

I've gone through 2 pumps...neither due to leaks. the first was replaced because it was noisy, the second because of faulty installation on the replacement...

that pump w/active steering is expensive. be glad its covered under warranty...I sure was.

Mine was replaced 12/2009 due to leaking. The pump is leaking again in the same place, 6/19/2010. The leak appears to be at the pulley shaft front seal.

why is that black thing (connector) in front wet? if the pulley seal was bad, the oil wouldnt travel forward.
i'd check for valve cover leak or similar, like the above poster mentioned.
is the top of the pump wet?
