I didn't know that I had one. I'll plug my Treo charger in there!

I haven't checked but I'm certainly hoping it's there!

Isn't there one in the trunk too, or is that on newest models only? I've never looked way back there, but thought I read about it somewhere (as in here).

I bought a double outlet extension socket from a local autoparts shop for aroun ?5 and mounted it on the side of the centre console next to the ashtray. (It's fixed by double sided sticky pads which came with it, and they grip just fine).

I have a portable "plug in" hands free device for my Nokia phone and it's too big to fit in the standard socket without interfering with the gear change, so that's primariliy why I bought it.

As I have no outlets in the rear, the double socket now serves as the power supply for the kids when we are going on long journeys.

The only gripe I have is that unlike my e39 which had the cigarette lighter socket as "always live", the one in the e60 goes dead when you turn the ignition off. Even on accessories I think it's dead, which means if the kids are watching a DVD in the back on the portable player, they loose the power every time I need to stop for petrol.

I'll post a piccie of the one I've installed when it's daylight outside and I can take a half decent photo.

Agree with everyone else, that in this day and age when everything is electronic that not putting power outlets in the rear and in the boot seems a bit daft. (Gone are the days when you could give the kids a wordsearch puzzle book and a pencil to keep them amused on long trips!).

Come on BMW, it's not just a drivers car, but a FAMILY car as well!

Ok mixterk,

I did just go out to the car and found out;

My car do have a 12 V outlet in the trunk.
See the cellcam pic of it!
(I really need to buy me a Canon 4 megapix camera!)

I also have a 230 V outlet in righthand footboot (the Defa system)
and the BMW flashligth in the clovebox, but not a 12 v outlet!

PS. Still working on the Philips Blue Vision lamps for the Angel Eyes and
H7 Hi-Beams and the fog lights.

I think in the EU spec cars you get the 12V outlet in the trunk only if you order your car with the folding rear seat.

I use my front one to keep my Razr charge adapter plugged in full time. Then I place the end with the jack into the little net on the side to be ready to plug in my cell for charging. Especially handy for use with bluetooth since it sucks power when using both rf signals in use.

It's silly that the US models get them, and others don't. Everyone needs those things, and deserves them!
Where is the front one you are describing? Is it energized when the car is not running. Does it power down after a while?
Thanks
