My e60 has 46000+ miles on it (18 months old). I've noticed that whereas I was averaging 26-27 mpg, now I'm doing 23 mpg. I didn't notice this last winter. I'm not driving like a maniac either.
Is this normal? Car otherwise is fine.
I actually improved my MPG to 30+ with the Winters. I think it is because I shed about 300 pounds of runflat technology in the switch.

It's because the gas is reformulated in the winter.
Couldn't agree more.

Your driving style also changes. As with the afore mentioned additives, winter diving usually forces higher revs from your engine (thus burning more fuel) as you negotiate poor weather conditions as well as the warm-up time required. if you are driving on dedicated winter tires, the rubber compound is different and will adversely effect your MPG as well. There are many factors that go along with MPG and for as many variables that we can think of, the slush on your boots could be making your right foot heavier!

And the fact that I'm eating away like a pig and not exercising because it's cold!

I think its normal too. I can drive about 420 miles with the full tank during summer time. but now in winter, i can only drive about 375 miles w/ full tank.

Like I told my wife last night, bathing suit season is right around the corner.

I got my 07 525xi the 1st weekend of November 2006 and have yet to reset the MPG rate. I'm 20.1 MPG from 11/06 to now. I understand the winterizing of the gas, but I can't believe it affects MPG this much. My driving style is "average" and not pedal to the metal.

Me three but only slightly. avg of 18.5 now down to 16-17. That said, I'm driving the car harder than ever, even with the winter shod. Can't help it. :+)

Your heater running will not have an impact on your fuel mileage that your AC does. Unless the temp. is above 32' F and the climate control senses high humidity in the cabin, your AC compressor does not run. This is the big draw (AC compressor) on energy during the summer months.

As hit upon also, in colder climates gasoline is supplemented with ethanol. This fuel does not burn and produce as much energy as straight gasoline.

In my experience, I have seen a 1-2 mpg decrease in the winter. So go ahead and step on it, there is nothing you can do to change it.

As one member says "drive like you stole something".
Not the hijack the thread here, but when its cold out I always press the snowflake button immediately after I hit auto because I thought it would run the compressor needlessly in the winter. Are you saying that even with the compressor light on, the car may not be running the compressor? Does this work the same on all E60s?
