jeremy clarkson of top gear reviews and compares the G8 to the 5

That is not exactly a G8 - the G8 is a Holden Commodore SS (in Australia). In Australia we also have HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) who take the mass produced Commodore SS (the G8) and do some additional motor mods (adding 60hp), suspension, brakes and cosmetic changes and that modified version is what Clarkson is testing.

For those interested see: http://www.hsv.com.au/cars/ESeries/clubspo...clubsportr8.asp

Spent many years driving Holdens and every time they release a new one, the first thing they aim at is the BMW 5 series. I thought they were ok until I got my first Bimmer. This time around they crowed that the new Commodore (G8) handled the same as the BMW. Just take a look at the lack of gaps in an E60 dash compared to low rent design in the Holden, or have a look at how close the doors are to the body and how consistent the gaps are. The quality of the finish, the materials, the lack of road noise, no flexing in the body shell (door rubbers noisy) etc.

Recently had one for quite a few days. Well I gotta say other than performance, I think the thing is a POS. I had it for a long country drive, and the waist line window height in the rear seat meant my (tallish) 5 year old had to have a booster under the booster seat so he could see out. What 'FAMILY' car has no vision for the kids? Talk about 'are we there yet?' The interior plastic is so soft that it scratches horribly. The multi function trip/nav computer is just INSANE to use (worse than the original Idrive), the seats are shiite, the steering is too light until it loads up, the brakes are a common Holden (GM) failing and the list goes on...

Might as well compare Kmart with Cartier

Cheers

Chicks dig a shiny new ANYTHING on wheels, ...
True! And it doesn't even have to be all that new; just kinda recent! "Chicks" just dig shiny stuff, just like children. The difference is, "chicks" don't plaster their greasy hands and face all over the side of your shiny car. (Not unless engaged in some semi-public debauchery. )

Wow, I just found a G8 chrome logo on eBay. I wonder if I rebadge my 550 anyone will know.
Probably not. They'd probably think it was something along the lines of a DINAN, Hartge, et. al.

Pukka - Forget what I said earlier... you're alright in my book

That being said, I prefer Stella Artois but I'm not picky...
