By primitive, I meant the operation - it's just a card with white markings on that rotates behind the tachometer - hardly hi-tech IMHO. As for the information it provides - does it really tell me it's safe to run my engine 1,000 revs higher than when cold within 5 minutes of my driving the car in the morning. And finally, how does a moving card with white bars on it even indicate that my engine might have started to overheat? I'd rather have a basic water temperature guage than the rather dubious econometer.

...or the engines on the LCIs have been enhanced to be instantaneously warm and ready for max revs on immediate start-up hence white bars anchored at max rev position?
