So at what revs do the stationary white bars start and finish in LCIs?

Obviously different for Diesel and Petrol.

3 bars above redline. Same as Pre-LCI warmed up.

520d LCI: start at 4550 rpm end at redline, at 5000 rpm

From the other thread (and actually the reason why I've started this poll), I understand that this is also the value of a warmed-up pre-LCI diesel!

By primitive, I meant the operation - it's just a card with white markings on that rotates behind the tachometer - hardly hi-tech IMHO. As for the information it provides - does it really tell me it's safe to run my engine 1,000 revs higher than when cold within 5 minutes of my driving the car in the morning. And finally, how does a moving card with white bars on it even indicate that my engine might have started to overheat? I'd rather have a basic water temperature guage than the rather dubious econometer.
It may just be a piece of card, but its connected to it is a Cray supercomputer, some titanium levers, one of which is operated by a clone of Steve Jobs and a laser gyro (last seen in a smart bomb)...oh and Gates wrote the OS!

...or the engines on the LCIs have been enhanced to be instantaneously warm and ready for max revs on immediate start-up hence white bars anchored at max rev position?
