also my undercarriage is also damaged as if there was an explosion ,,it is ripped.what i fail to understand is inspite of what some have to say that 6 inches of water will exert a huge amount of force is that is the bmw sooo damn weakly built that it cant withstand such things when in front of me there were numerous cars passing the very spot with stalling and without having their undercarriage ripped..i mean think about it a 60k car stops and gets damaged so easily when 20 k cars zoom about.its worth stoping and thinking what crap does bmw talk about being a solid safe car!!! hugely dissapointed with this episode ...am not denying that it drives excellently but is it worth it when it cant even withstand such episodes.i know some people will take offense to this but in reality they too will agree with this

Seems like what you're saying is that you drove into a large mass of standing water at a high speed (not 5 mph), your engine has ingested water, various pieces of your E60's body have been damaged, and you're unhappy that your E60 didn't behave like a Range Rover?

not really.am unhappy that my e60 did not behave lthe way a high end car should...come on try to accept constructive critisism.there is no harm in accepting that the car did not withstand the water the same way as other cars were able to and those cars believe me were much less expensive that the e60 and i am not complaining about the engine damage due to water , i understand that any car would probably behave the same way if water goes in the engine..what i am complaning about is the damage caused ot the undercarriage.
nothing personal but come on even am proud of my bmw but i guess it let me down pretty badly

I kinda agree, I have heard of the dumbest things happening to the E60 and causing huge damage! The truth is, it is just a car that comes with a status. I am driving a rental 2007 Camry LE, I can't believe how well built and comfortable this freaking car drives!! I swear to god I have abused the hell out of it and it surprises the hell out of me each time especially in the rain. Anyway you just have to be extra cautious with fancier cars period.

but why was you doing 35mph over 6 inch pond? that is mad. speed and water do alot of damage.
Back in UK when I was driving the 7er, I alway do about 5mph over deep water.

i was not deliberately trying to take it over the puddle at 35mph.its just that it was pitch dark and i could not see the puddle and the moment i realized that i had struck water i braked.i kinda agree i should have been more careful but anyways..

i have xenon lights.but still i mean it was really dark and raining so difficult to see the water.ultimately i should have been more careful and whatever has happened ahs happened.hope everything ends ok.but am sure ot get it up with the bmwna about the undercarriage ripping.if u guys were to see it(will try to get the pics) would agree with me about the fact that it sure is not easily explained just by the water pressure damage.something is amiss!!!

I've seen plenty of E60's for sale and breaking for spares on 'fleabay'. Indeed I bought a DAB tuner from one being dismantled. The common denominator in all these cars (bar one!) was underbody damage. It certainly makes one wonder

maybe your undercarriage was damaged because you hit the ground/dip as you try to pass all those water at such a high speed. must be a big dip....
