Can 6-8 inches of water do all of that? I drove through some water yesterday, I would say that it reached the bottom of my rims and I was fearful at that. I can't imagine 6-8 inches being high enough to reach the engine though

At 35 MPH, 6-8 inches of water will come up over the hood (bonnet). Plenty enough to choke the engine.

It will still be up to the adjuster and your particular insurance company.

That's a BS. That what your car insurance is for, to pay for damages to your car. What if he drove the car into a wall. Insurance would have to pay. Same here.

Well driving into 6 - 8 of water at 35mph is like hitting a wall!!!! come on guys half a foot of water!!!!
at that speed. anyway no BMW will not cover it. IS it a maunfactoring defect ? no. your insurance should cover it if it is full comp, over here you would get it from what i have seen.
I do feel sorry for you though, its one of those things you never think of happening. i actual moved my airfilter/ airbox higher in my own car to avoid this , the thing sits at the same height as the sump and my car is low.

when your car stalled, did you try to start the car? if you did, then major damage and yes the water can rip apart your engine.

Same thing happened to me on Wed. Went through intersection with water when a truck came barreling throught causing a wave that rocked the car.

Tow truck came 4.5 hours later to tow to dealer. I got home 8 hours later in soaking wet clothes. They had 75 cars towed in for the same problem. Rep said would probabley need the engine swapped out if hydrolocked which it probably is.

Covered by comprehensive but a $500 deductable. You policy should tell you how much they will pay for car rental and for how long.

my rep too has said that it probably need sengine replacement and my comprehensive is 250 deductible.am pretty sure that when they start to work on the car they will find numerous other things that they will say have been damaged and needs replacement.who knows if they come up with a big list the adjustor might be tempted to just total the car!!!
