My Ride: 2007 525i - 245/45 R17. Full option done at the dealer - all after market are illegal in Qatar ;-)
2007 Honda Accord
2006 Landcruiser
When I start my 525i 2007 model, my idrive screen states ?please enter navigation dvd?. The issue is I?m not sure where the dvd is. This has cropped up after my warranty and I?ve now been using a bmw specialist mechanic for my service. Surprising fact is at the service when I entered the mechanic?s bmw navigation dvd in my center console, the navigation started working . I returned the dvd to the mechanic and the navigation worked for a couple of days ? I?m guessing the data is stored in the center console/hardwired.
After a couple of days, however, the please enter navigation dvd sign has come up again. How do I get over this. I do not wish to purchase a navigation dvd cause I have a fantastic garmin device but I do not wish to see this sign everytime I start my car. Can I burn a navigation dvd or one has to put in a bmw navigation dvd?
Would really appreciate a response and a thankyou in advance for all suggestions.

have someone burn a dvd for you (at the slowest burn rate I believe) or buy a copy on Ebay...
But silly question...why use a portable nav if you car has nav as well?

The Garmin Easier to use. Besides i reside in Qatar where navigation is used generally to head to the sand dunes/desert - cannot take the beemer there and have a 4x4 for that. It is a small country and don't really require navigation to get around the place.
As for the mechanic's DVD - i mentioned that i removed it and handed it over to him (cause he was asking USD 500 for the same) - apparently the BMW dealer asks USD 1,000 for it. After removing the disc from the center consold dvd/cd slot, my navigation worked for a couple of days. Then i get that error again - "please insert navigation dvd". This i don't get - hw does the navigation work with no dvd inside for some time?
I'll try burning that navigation dvd.

My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
if you do not use the nav, then I would burn mp3's on a dvd and leave it in. You can get lots of mp3 songs on a dvd.
