I have Michelin Pilot Alpins on and the handling on my '05 525 is ok, but nothing great. I drove my neighbors xi and I have to say that I wasn't too impressed. I expected the car to be pretty sure-foooted in the snow, but I couldn't tell much of a difference between my car and his. Obviously his car handled better overall (same Alpins on his car), but I couldn't say that there was a big enough difference to go with the xi the next time around, especially given the price and fuel consumption.

What kinda xi? was it the old fixed 62 rear 38 front torque splitting xi or the new X-Drive xi that can transfer 100% torque to either axle? I would expect the X-Drive to be much more impressive than a RWD...

That looks like the trails I go on when I go SnowCat Skiing every year, up in Canada. Where was this pic taken?

It is fun to play on the roads when you find you find a kindred soul. I'm looking forward to running into Rudy on the turnpike somewhere and giving a knowing nod.
I'm keeping my eye out for you Spyder...

Cman,

Even though it snowed a few inches last night, I took my wife's SUV and left the XI in the garage. Now I know for sure that I won't buy another XI, this is my second winter with the vehicle and the most I will let her see is a slush puddle in the driveway.

That's cuz you need an "xi". Although, I doubt I'd ever take my E60 up to the mountains, whether it could handle it or not. I would be stressing the whole time at how dirty and nasty it got and how I was going to clean it without getting any swirl marks in the paint.

It freakin' melted by the time I got home. Every lot I went to was plowed. It warmed up a bit today, so all the pavement is back. Sucks!
