Plastic key - useless?

I'll give it another try in a little while.
It's funny -- I was going to suggest that maybe the car would act differently with various combinations of sleeping, awake, etc. but I didn't have time to lock it and wait until the car went to sleep.
After 10-20 seconds, the car clearly isn't sleeping so I'm wondering what other things happen after such a short time that makes the car act differently?

my plastic key seems to work fine as well, at least as far as I have never had a problem using it for the valet to park my car. Now either the alarm doesn't arm using the plastic key, which would be a major concern to me, or it's arming and disarming as advertised. I'll have to try it later today. All I know is that I frequently use the plastic key and have never had the alarm go off when the valet opens the car.
As for the 10-20 second delay, perhaps it's like the alarm on my home, where you arm it, but there is a short delay until the alarm actually is armed and active. Not sure why there would be such a delay on the car alarm though, maybe to give you a chance to get something out of the trunk, or some other saftey margin to avoid tripping.

The alarm is armed only after everything is closed and secured. Once the perimeter is secured (including trunk), then the alarm is set. No "entry or exit delay" would be needed.

I think it's waiting for a possible second press of the unlock button what would tell the system that you doesn't want the interior sensor to be activated (in such cases where you leave your dog in the car and leave the window a little bit open or the sun roof tilted).
It needs to wait quite a while, since you can press and hold down the button for closing the windows and the sun roof before, and after that you would have to press the button again for deactivation of interior sensors.
So the system is waiting quite a while before activating the alarm's interior sensors...
And if the second press is not made in this waiting period, the system will be activated... I guess...

That makes sense. Of course over here, you can't use the remote to close the windows and roof so it really only needs to wait a small amount of time to allow for the "leave your ki..." I mean, "leave your dog in the car" mode.

Okay, just to be more thorough, I locked my car with the plastic valet key and waited about 5 minutes.
I used the plastic key to unlock it and everything worked as expected -- alarm was armed then disarmed just like a remote/master key.
If I get adventureous, I'll try to lock it tonight using the plastic then let the car go to sleep and see what happens when I unlock it with the plastic again.
