Finally did it today...I swallowed the bullet and placed the order on my 550i this morning. I put delivery off until the spring as the weather is changing now and no need to make payments while it sits in the garage. Thanks to all of you for such valuable information as I racked my brain over this decision.

Very nice care there! I don't see how you can wait that long, though.
I'm sure you know that there is a little bit of suffering involved during the breakin period. The car and motor want to go and it is hard to deny them.

Yea, I am going to get new wheels (debating on 19" or 20"). I am leaning towards HRE wheels but my wallet needs to recover a bit first. I have seen some awesome wheels here on the forum so I guess the world is my oyster

Welcome, and great car. Everyone will suggest what they bought. I wanted to stay within BMW specs, do business with my BMW dealer, and get wheels that have great styling, are larger, and are very light. So, I chose BMW 101's. Look at the first set of "Mind-Candy" 545i photos linked in my sig. Oh, and, in the future, remember that you are supposed to bite the bullet not swallow it.
Is it standard in Germany or any reason you wouldn't order it?

The black rims look great on the cars - imho
The wait is awful - then they make you go through a break in period - which is where I am now - so I am still waiting to see what the car really can do - so another suggestion would be to get the car about a month before the weather gets really nice - so you can drive it slow and break it in
