new to these, which is the best and where in the UK supplies them at a reasonable price, any I've found here seem Very expensive ie $249 = ?279 here!

I have the Passport G-Timer PRO. Haven't tried any others but this one seems to work fine. Has many displays to play around with. Takes up space on the windshield and there's an extra wire on the dash so I don't use it all the time, but it is fun every now and then.

 

i seen one in PBMW magazine a few months ago. It has no wires. I think it uses GPS to measure the times.

 

I have been researching these things, see previous post, no good responses. My advice is to get the g-tech pro on ebay or their site for $50US or less. I plan to store data on the computer so I plan to get the g-tech pro competition which is expensive as you say. The added features on the g-tech don't work as well with bmw electrical systems, but most of the other brands have those features anyway. In case you ask, I refer to picking up a tach signal through the power lead.
There are also AP-22, Vector FX, Mr. dyno, and GAA Dyno devices. I have no actual experience with any. My opinion is to buy extra versatility, but that usually means less ease of use and higher cost.

 

do you know if the tach signal via power lead will definately not work with the E60?

The best value one here (in UK) seems to be the ap22....Has anyone tried this device??

G-tech forums add information; like, some sporatic success with bmw and deriving tach from 12v. Mention of alternate sensing wire for tach for reliability. I plan to buy competition one soon and experiment. Some mention that it was more sensitive re tach signal. AP-22 looks good too but feature count is lower. Don't need most of the features from g-tech anyway.
