My Ride: 2005 530i jet black, NAV, premium, automatic, xenon
Today I recieved a message indicating a problem with the passenger seat restraint system, either the airbag or the seatbelt. I checked the owners manual and confirmed that there is nothing under the seat and there is no one IN the seat (now). When it first happened, my 13 year old daughter was in the front passenger seat, but she rides there on a daily basis. Has anyone had this message, and is there a quick fix??

no quick fix - take it to the dealer & see what they say. Until then, have the daughter ride in the back for her own safety (never know which moron will run a traffic light tomorrow).
more than likely the dealer will replace the seat sensor if they notice an issue. Its happened to myself 2/3 times on my previous e60.

Have the same problem, took it in about a month ago and service kept the car for almost a week. The darn thing came back second day after getting the car back.
Have been driving with it for a while, will have to make another appointment

I had this some time ago, they ended up chaning quite a few sensors, plus it took a couple software updates to fix. The dealer couldn't tell me if the car was safe to drive in this condition, so I mostly just drove it to the dealership when I had this error. The first time I had this repaired, it came back about a week later.

My Ride: On order: 2007 550i, silver gray, black leather, anth. maple trim, active cruise, heated steering wheel, sport, night vision, vent seats, heat rears, active steering, rear air bags, folding seats, comfort access, navigation , HUD, black head liner, steptronic, premium sound, sirius and HD radio.
If the error clears after the car sits shut down for a while and it does not happen again it is most likely not a faulty seat sensor. I had this problem and it was fixed this week. There was a problem with the negative lead from my battery. (Known issue). If the error happens and will not go away or keeps happening it is most likely a faulty sensor mat in the passenger seat. Also if you are messing with the pass airbag light in the overhaed console and unplug it to keep the light off this will cause the error message as well. On the 04 models the plug was very easy to remove. On the 05's you have to use a tool to 'unlock' the plug.

My car has this fault as well. First time it was removed by the dealer by clearing the error code memory. That was in Croatia when I was on holiday. After a few days it was back. Second time my own dealer removed it by doing the same although I told them this would not work and IMO a sensor had to be replaced.
Now they are still trying to figure out what to do. Apparently they can't figure it out yet. Logical sense tells me it is the seat sensor.
