no not that! 
....I have a briefcase and was wondering where eveyone keeps it;
1 - behind the seats on the floor
2 - the back seat
3 - the trunk/boot
4 - front seat.
I use the trunk/boot as I can't fit it behind my seat (6'5") and I dont want to mark the leather on the seats.

I keep it in the front seat. It will do no harm as the briefcase is made of soft leather. Its softer than any part of a live person potentially & eventually sitting there

Yeah, it depends...if i need it , i carry it on the front seat, because it's made of leather and no harm is done and because i activated the funtion to lock the doors once the car gets moving! so no need to worry about traffic stealin'. If i don't need it i leave it in the trunk so no temptation is created.
