PDC will pay itself in the long run. Though I think it's still a bit slow to boot up, and here in the States, the pictogram doesn't appear until after you push the I-drive to get rid of lawyer screen.

If you live, or drive in pedestrian heavy places, the PDC will be a must. It alerted me a few time when people just jumped into me when I was backing up.

I find it to be a must have. In some of the public garages I park in the support columns are in inregular places and when backing out of the small space the columns may not be easily visible all the time.

Plus it will alert my wife BEFORE she backs into the neighbors car across the street while backing out of our driveway( this incident was the clincher for me).

PDS is a must have. I actually had the dealer reduce the car price by the amount of the PDC. I made like I didn't really want it but the car he had in the showroom had it.

I think it is a must have. Absolutely love it. I've never have had to parallel park in my E60, but I use it anytime I think I'm going to get close to somethng in the front and it's always helpful when in reverse.

However, if it didnt show on the monitor, I'd probably have a different opinion.

That's the coolest part

I bet it's especially helpful if you're drunk 24/7.

I wish I had it . . . .

Wow, every single one of the posts is for it. I am going to disagree with majority, so take my opinion for what it is worth, but I find it utterly useless. Granted, I never parrallel park and if I did I might see its value, but by the time the I-Drive Screen boots up and I have dismissed the lawyer screen, I am almost always backed out of my parking spot or my garage. By the time the graphic comes up, its too late. I have Nav and that may be the issue, but if I had to do it all over again, I would unquestionably leave this feature off. With a faster I-Drive start-up and the ability to use it, I might change my mind, but as of today, I only find it to be an annoying grey screen I have to dismiss immediately after the lawyer screen.

[quote name='Wilchwitz' date='Mar 3 2005, 01:41 PM']PDC is a worthwhile option and I encourage you to get it.? Plus its another thing on the E60 to amuse and astound your friends with the first time they see it.

Agree - The PDC is worth it for the pictogram display alone.

One word of warning - once you get used to driving with it , you need to be very careful when you jump into a car without it

Or when you park front first and forget to switch it on!
You get used to it so much when backing out of somewhere you automatically start listening and looking.
Best thing compared to my former Mercedes is the space orientated sound (object left front = sound left front) and the graphical display in the Idrive where the merc only had some cheap leds reacting to all sensors at once so you had no idea as to where the obstacles are.
Disadvantage: when the beep is continous and the display gets red there still is enough room, so it's not very accurate.
