I don't trust my PDC. at least not the ones in the back. I've already had a light scratch on my rear bumper because of this. I then stand out side my car while the sensors were on. I realized that my rear sensors are not working properly. sometimes, it won't detect anything when my knee was right infront of it. other times, it would detect but show as there are a little more room there (exactly the reason taht caused my scratch). However, my front PDC are working great. very precise, down to 1/2 inch if not better.

something to realise is that a low stick can be driven over, the bumper will bend over it and when you drive away it pulls part of the bumper to pieces. And the pdc does not look that low on the ground......

My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
I've been driving (and parking) in Manhattan for 10 years now.
PDC is a guide for me, and a very nice guide too, but I don't necessarily depend on it.
I trust my PDC and I can also park cars w/o PDC.

Our 530d (last car) was the first one my wife had driven with both rear and front PDC. She was reversing out of a space and was so amazed at the front PDC that she forgot about the back and reversed in to a car. About ?500 of damage to the other car which we settled out of insurance. Our car needed a new bumper. I bought one (actually a full set of front/rear/side skirts), which sat in our garage for a year. Then I sold the car, with the dent still in the bumper, and the new bumper still in the garage. Nobody here wanted the set of trim for free, so I binned it. Sorry if you are reading this in the UK and need a new set of bumpers and have just seen how much they cost ... you weren't quick enough !!

Dont like the fact it doesnt work if you drive into a space without revercing first, the MB system does work this way and very well.
On my 08 E60 the PDC can be toggled on and off anytime with button below the radio. This is useful when pulling into the garage.

It really wasnt a feature I wanted, but I guess its standard on the 550 (right?) as my car had it when it arrived.
I have to admit, I have kind of grown to like it, and trust it 100%. I have to parallel park most days at work, and most times watch the screen versus watching behind me when backing up in between my law partner's X5 and ES330.

The PDC has its limitations...I wish they were placed a bit lower so they could detect large stoned or pavements. Don't be too dependent on them as you could have you bumper scraped from below.
Other manufactures like Volvo on its S80 have placed the sensors very low to overcome this problem.

My question to you guys is this: Have anyone had any problems/failures of PDC? I wonder how reliable this gadget is.

When it malfunctions its "suppose" to have a solid tone *beep*
I agree it should be a little lower to help with parking curbs. I also wish it would go solid or have another indicator a little closer. I have to park real close to the front of my garage. My PDC leaves 8 inches or so when on solid.
