I'll have to say, after driving this car for a few years, I am getting very comfortable when I back up. Occasionally when I drive my wife's car (which does not have PDC), I realize how dependent I am on the sonar!

What if one day I was reversing and PDC was malfunctioning? No beeps!

My question to you guys is this: Have anyone had any problems/failures of PDC? I wonder how reliable this gadget is.

I have no issues, (Thank goodness)

because like you, I use it all the time.. but I will say that I normally need to hear the first beep or see the green , before I would trust it fully.. but again, so far no issues

You know I wonder if the PDC fails under warranty, and you hit someone.. does BMW cover the damage ?

Nope - Like ACC, DSC, and Night Vision, BMW includes that legal statement that says its the driver's ultimate responsibility to ensure proper handling of the car and not to solely rely on these systems.

If the PDC fails it emits a continuous tone, it happened on my previous car a 3 series coupe. Then you just have to revert to the old fashioned method of looking where the hell you are going!!!!

Dont like the fact it doesnt work if you drive into a space without revercing first, the MB system does work this way and very well.

Just press the button on the dashboard as you drive in...

My Lexus worked the same way - the system was active both front and back without having to reverse. The negative of this is having the PDC sound when you pull up behind another car at a traffic light or someone pulls close to your rear end. With my BMW I turn the PDC on manually when driving into a space. You just have to remember to hit the button.

It has worked flawlessly for on my last two 5ers. Sometimes I check to see how much space is left when it emits the continuous tone. It works exactly as advertised.

Is my PDC working? Yes

But I have got a dent -- no, it's more like a light 'stab'
smack in the middle of my rear bumper. I think someone
did that while parking in the space behind me.

Damn, those city parking spaces...... The ones in Taipei
barely fit an E60...

A few more bangs on the bumpers and I'll have to upgrade to
M Techs!
