I am assuming your mechanic connected the electrical connector to the water pump and thermostat.
Bleeding process -
Insert the key in ignition, turn to position 2 (don't start the engine), set the temp to highest setting, press auto, turn the fan to lowest setting. Then press and hold the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds. You will hear the pump start and coolant flows thru the hoses. The pump will run for about 10 minutes.
If your battery is weak, connect the charger to the car before you do the above.

You can also have a bad sensor(s) causing your car to think it is overheating when it's actually not... A good friend of mine actually had this problem and during the process there was at least one sensor i believe on the radiator maybe two. I understood him to say that the sensor was failed and telling the car it was overheated when it was actually cold so the fan was put in to high mode.

As Tony suggested above, bad coolant temp sensor can cause problem.
On N52 engine, the coolant temp sensor is located on the lower radiator hose. Very easy to disconnect the connector and pull out the coolant temp sensor.
When you pull out the coolant temp sensor, coolant will come out of that hole. So, have a new coolant temp sensor (make sure there is a new o-ring on that sensor) ready when you pull out the old one.

i am havin trouble with bleeding my car, i called my local bmw dealership and they said that i cant bleed out my coolant because my pump is electric and it requires a computer to do it. is this true? cuz i seen on youtube lot of people doing it. i have not checked out the sensors yet.
