My Ride: 545iS SMG, Black on Brown... Carbon Grille. Navi. PDC. Htd Seats. HUD... Sunshades. Logic7. All Packages. 20%front-5%back........ ETC............................... Coming Soon: MTEC full kit, some wheels. ACS rear carbon spoiler. NAV TV.

Hi guys I swear I tried to search but didn't find anything about HUD windshield!? Do I need special windshield for HUD?
Can local shop change it? Cause I called dealer and they charged me 700$ only for winshield!

Yes, the HUD requires a special windshield. How large is the crack?

When I bought my 5, my dealer tried to warn me that it was ~2000 for getting the windshield replaced. I laughed and said that's what insurance is for.

I know a lot of dealers outsource this work. You may want to ask your trusted SA the name of the company they use. Give the window company your VIN and they'll match you up with the right OE windshield.

Just had my windshield replaced; tinted band, rain sensor, and non-HUD. Zero deductible with insurance. Insurance company wanted me to go to their preferred repair shop that would use aftermarket windshield. Told them I wanted OEM windshield and that I wanted my vendor (the vendor my local dealership out sources to) to do the repair. The insurance co said they would pay up to $650 of the repair cost and anything over that the vendor would need to get permission of the insurance co. The vendor said that the $650 was more than the replacement, w/labor, would cost so no need for authorization of further amount. Happy camper.
