My car?s check engine light came up, so I took it to the dealer for service this morning. They gave me a brand new 2009 335is coupe loaner. The new iDrive system is completely different than the iDrive on my 06 530i.

The screen is bigger and it is not split into 2 screens, so make it look even bigger. The map can zoom all the way to 100 ft, picture is clear and it shows all the street names. The new iDrive is ridicules easy to use. The most important is the respond speed with either the control wheel or speech recognition.

I complained a lot of the iDrive function in the past, but the new iDrive is way better. I also had a chance to drive a 08 335i loaner few months ago, the iDrive for 2008 is good, but overall it is just a improvement of the older one.

Dang you get really nice loaners... where do you take your car? Mine usually gave me the lowest model they can get... a 325 now its sub contracted out to Enterprise so its all crap cars.

I went to New Centure BMW in the past, and BMW of Monrovia this time.
Make sure you wait for the loaner, not rental if you're not in the hurry to get the car serviced.

I had a play with the new I-Drive in a new 7 Series the other day at my local dealership, and i also found the new one to be insanely better than the current! Plus, slightly off topic, the new 7 Series........ WOW!!!!!

And you do seem to get much nicer courtesy cars than we do here in the UK. At my local dealership in Bournemouth, they usually just give out 1 or 3 series 2.0D SE's. But, sometimes you don't get anything, as you have to book about 2-3 weeks in advance to be guaranteed a courtesy car! Not the best service in the world.

Cooper Reading has given me an automatic 116i the last few times I've taken my car in, and I don't need to say that I'm always extremely glad to get my 535d back... the 116i is bad, but the auto version is one of the most gutless things I've driven for a loooong time. Ugh.

I just can't understand why they won't loan me something I might actually be tempted to buy?!

I played with the new I-Drive in the new 7 series at the LA Auto Show last month and I have to agree, it is head and shoulders above even the 2008 version that I have in my X5!!

Same exact comment- had a 328xi for loaner- cool screen. The graphics are so much better - actually AUDI-like (sorry)... I know they can't replicate the 4 additional buttons (or is it 6?) but could they at least upgrade our graphics to look like the new model? I wonder if it's just a newer version of iDrive that could do that? We're in the "pong" dark ages and I can't even get CD music descriptions to appear...
