Well it all depends on delear. Since you are in Chevy Chase, MD area, Did you go to VOB? I had bad experience with that dealer when I purchased 325IS back in 89. Tischer BMW was able to beat that price by $1000.00.
Why don't you make a dealer via internet? That's what I did.
I made deal via internet between Sterling BMW and Fairfax BMW and Fairfax was able to give me better deal. I actually made cheaper when I went to delear to pick up the car, internet sales manager wasn't there and I was able to negotiate less than 30mins, what I originally got offer from internet sales manager.

I paid less than MSRP out the door. I hope it helps to get good deals.

I have not ordered it yet.? But Im going with the Comfort Seats, and Heated heats.? I dont listen to music seriosly, so I would not enjoy Logic 7.? The MSRP is $52,190.? I have an offer for "$1,500" over invoice which come to $49,290.? Is that as low as I can go?

For 52k on a 525, I am assuming you are getting almost every other option.

Not sure how long you are planning on keeping the car, but with all of the comfort options you have, not having logic 7 would be a negative from the resale standpoint. Maybe not so much in cost but in desirability.

I have heard about 4% above invoice on a 545 is doing pretty good. When I was buying, they would definately deal more on a 525/530 as they had higher allocations on them. I would work them harder. The internet advice is a good idea - go far and tell them to make it worth your while to drive. Then go back and work you dealer.

Good Luck.

Unless you really use Cruise Control, I would go with option A. You will always use one of them. You will not regret the comfort seats.

Peter,

before you do anything, one question:

Are you leasing or buying. If you are leasing, at least get pricing on the 545. Money factors are .001. Money factors for the 525 and 530 are supposedly higher. I am leasing a 545 that I am taking delivery of first week of May. It is fully loaded other than you guessed it ACC. I am paying $673/mo with $2500 down. On a 525 with a 59% residual (3yr lease) with a .0027 money factor, you will pay $691 with the numbers you mentioned for MSRP and purchase price. The 545 deals are spectacular right now.

If you are buying then I definitely understand why you are opting for the 525. We love our 545 on this board.

Hope this helps.

Matt

Is the leather any different on the comfort seats? The Dakota leather hasn't really impressed me on my X3 -- it seems thin (not that Ive measured it) and less luxurious than leather from years past.

I am going to pay cash for it, so that gives me a little leverage on price. I dont want to spend over $55,000 for a car. I would rather have a car near full options than a faster one with less. I am going to be driving this car in the city, and where gas is $2.50, so hopefully I will get better mileage. I would definatly get a 545 if I did not have a Boxster. Thanks, good idea.

Another nice thing about the cold weather package - the thicker and better feeling steering wheel. Much nicer IMHO...

Active cruise seems like a waste, particularly if you're trying to save some money. You will have cruise control, it's probably not worth spending up to get a fancier one.

L7 on the other hand....all good...

Peter, I humbly propose that paying cash does not help you obtain a better price. This is because the dealer gets their cash immediately whether its from you or the finance company. If I'm overlooking something by saying this, please let me know!

Peter, I must agree with Bart here. The invoice price of these cars is posted on the information page of this site. Configure your car and offer your dealer $1500 over invoice. Have pen and checkbook in hand. It actually works in their favor because they have no additional paperwork to do regarding financing.
