Tonight because of the light trafiic, i decided to let her go again on my favorite bit of road, and i really pushed it at max...REALLY at the car's max....and mine. DSC off, of course, and at high speed cornering, when i really pushed it, i noticed a lil bit too much understeer than i would have wanted. Of course it's safer to be a bit understeery but i would have wanted less. So at those high speed corners when body roll is quite significant (because of the big weight of course) the slight body roll doesn't piss me at all since i like it a bit, and gives me more feel of what the car is actually doing and acting, the understeer upsets me a bit since i really have to push that throttle (because of the lack of lsd) to counter that understeer and turn it into that oversteer, but at those speeds (80-120km/h) is kinda hard to keep it exactly on that rezor's edge with the exact quantity of oversteer to cover the turn perfectly.
So i would ask now, what can i do to change that a bit? I would still want to have a bit of understeer initialy, but less than it is now? Working on toe and camber settings is an option? What do you think?

THanx!
BMW's have a bit of a reputation for understeer at higher speeds.

Simplest option to start with would be to get your 19 inch rims on and fit proper tyres (not run-flats). Try to choose something particularly sticky and as wide as possible for the front and something a bit harder for the back.

The different OEM tyre widths will also help:

If you want more than that - then you'll need to get the damping / suspension looked at

So you are saying....go 19's, PS2s, 245 on the front since that's pretty much the maximum width (255 ?) and run the back ones at higher pressure right? Also i suspect that running on 19s with smaller tire walls (35F/30R) should help?
Thanx!

I recommend the BMW Driver Traning, 80% of the time you practice that, they "cut" your ABS cable and all stuff (DTC, DSC) switched off, slick tires on the rears, wow that was fun. They even let you do the exercises w drifting this was w e87, so then I took my e60 on aquaplanning track all off, and still it was hard to drift, once it was nice.

Next yr Nring M training

PS. where the in RO can you do that? no offence but with the roads there I wud be very careful mate, whats up w remapping???

No offence taken, the roads here are awfull, but in the main center there are a few bits that aren't that bad...i did that of course at night and when there was almost no traffic.
Yeah i would take that training once i'll stay more in Germany...but no such luck in the near future.
Remaping has been postponed till august, cuz only then i get any spare time being so tighed up with the licence of the university and all that stuff....

I'd go with OEM 19 inch tyre sizes initially, but perhaps look at different tyres on the front compared to the back - something very soft and sticky on the front (pirellis say) and something more more hard wearing on the back (conti's maybe) ..... wait a minute .... that's my car

Recommended pressures are higher for the rear anyway due to the different sized tyres. I've got my front tyres mid way between the low and high load figures and the rears a little bit higher than midway.

The OEM sizes are 245/35/19 (front) and (275/30/19) rear on 8.0 and 9.5 inch rims respectively.

Dinan sell 9.0 inch (front) and 10.0 inch (rear) rims for the e60, but still recommend the same size tyres - although clearly wider ones might fit - I seem to remember someone posting with 285 /255 at least).

On their web-site they do claim that the wide tyres reduce understeer and compared to runflats the unsprung weight will be reduced which is all good:

Have you tried jabbing the brake with your left foot as you turn in ? This will transfer weight to the front end, get the back lighter and bring it round. Start gently then build up confidence.

I have noticed same understeer at the track, but there is simple solution for that too. Turn while braking! It helps a lot when weight is distributed front while braking. I think that they have done it safe and fast. To much power when coming out from corner will make it of course over steer and I think that M5 with all that power is actually easier to drive. You can dance car with all that power easier. Wheels will not like that thou.

I go with 265/30-19 in front and 275/30-19 rear, 9,5"ET20 F+R, 5mm spacer in front and 15mm rear, absolutely no rubbing, but I have dynamic drive witch is incredible.

Really no rubbing? Have you had you fenders rolled? Wow you really must be the owner with the widest front tyres. Really nice setup you have there....
