Local stealer took 45 mins for oil service on my 535i and $249 later I was on my way home!

An oil change is the easiest DIY job.

They don't call it the stealership for nothing folks.

I have no idea why an oil change can vary so much from dealer to dealer. I have always changed my own oil but contacted my local dealer to to see how much an oil change would cost as changing oil is sort of a pain with the mess, clean-up, recycling, etc. I was told my 550i would cost $89. I can barely buy the filter and oil for that amount. Makes me wonder though seeing the costs mentioned above.

I am not privy to BMWNA's contractual agreements with their stealers, but as with most other types of businesses I am sure each BMW stealer has the ability to set its own prices. Each stealer will consider factors like clientele and the number of other BMW stealers (competition) in their locality when determining their markup or the amount of revenue it can extort (that was a typo) extract from its customers.

You're right. I should be doing this myself. Now days it's all about how much my time is worth. But $249 for an oil service, never again!

wow 249 seems way too high, i just changed my oil at the local dealer here for 69 bucks ( i had a coupon but they always have coupons on their site ). So for 69 bucks i got an oil change a car wash and a full inspection ( downside is with the full inspection when i found out i needed new bushings for the front struts for 700 )

Going for an Oil Service next week covered under BMW maintenance to 100,000 miles. The Dealer is calling it a Oil Service.

Seems I saved over $70 or so by not going to the dealer.
I like your style.....how many quarts does the V8 take?
