Oil service on 545i
#1
I am a new member (this is my first post) and I just bought a 545i a couple of weeks ago in New Jersey and drove it down to Miami. It currently has about 2,200 miles on it and the service indicator says that it is time to chane my oil. I was told that you change the oil on these BMWs every 15,000 miles, so what gives? Does the indicator mean that the oil level is low? I checked the dipstick and it seemed to be a bit low - which even that is surprising given that full synthetic oil should not burn off like conventional oil.
The BMW dealers are closed tonight. In the meantime, what are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Zachary

My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.
Welcome to the forum. I am sure the low level indicator is different than the oil service indicator but I haven't seen either go off in my car yet. And you are correct the first oil service should be between 12-15k miles.

Thanks guys. I'm going to call the dealer today and see what I can find out.
Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera yet, but as soon as I do I'll post some pics. In the meantime, I'll just try to briefly verbally describe it:
Jet Black exterior with Beige leather interior with fancy wood.
steptronic automatic
Sport Pkg
Cold Weather Pkg
Premium Sound Pkg (logic 7)
Navigation
HUD
Rear Side Air Bags
Wood gear selector (looks sharp with the rest of the wood in the car)
factory trunk cargo mat
factory front and rear rubber floor mats with grooves (comes in real handy during snow and wet weather in the North).
Oh, and for 05 the Park Distance Control is standard.
Next I'm going to tint the windows - it's hot here in Miami.

Well, I just got back from the dealer here in Miami. They told me that something is wrong with the sensor and that it will take about 6 to 8 hours to fix. Other than that, they said that the oil level was fine, but that is probably because I put in half a quart of Mobil 1 already. Still, if 1 qt loss is normal, then 1/2 a quart is pretty good.
Since I bought the car from a dealer in NJ, they wouldn't give me a loaner car so I just made an appointment for tomorrow to drop it off.
I'll keep you guys posted of what happens.
