Oil pressure warning - need advice
I have a 2007 530ix with about 200K miles. The car had been parked for almost a year, and the battery was shot completely. Had it towed, replaced battery, and during the 45 mile trip home, after about 40 minutes of driving, the low oil pressure warning came on. I pulled over, sat there for awhile, started back up, (I had about 1.5 miles to go) and made it home. All good, no noises, no smoke, no problem. Car sat again for a couple weeks, so I decided to drive it to town, about 20 miles. On the highway, after about 10 minutes at 75mph, same low oil message appears. Oil level is full, but also have a service warning to change oil. Once again, I limp home with about 6 pullovers and waits, still not running hot, car drives perfect. My question to you experienced BMW guys is where do I begin to try to diagnose this issue? I am wondering if this is a sludge problem or sensor or WTF? (I do live on a very dusty gravel road, and it has been quite hot on both these days.) Any ideas? Thanks for reading.

It would help immensely to have the BMW codes. Did you have the new battery registered?
With the car sitting around for so long, you could have a few dried up seals that are no longer doing their job adequately.

The shop said they registered the battery, and everything else seems OK. No other weird messages, so far at least, and it is supposedly an exact replacement. Still hunting for my misplaced OBD plug although I'm not sure my software will deliver much in the way of useful info. Thanks for the reply, and a good point about the seals. The car was started periodically as long as the battery was up, but eventually it would not even take a charge. This car seems to have a slight parasitic draw that doomed the replaced battery.
