Thanks mate. I know that's the place to look for. But the CCC that I retrofited doesn't have this option... and now low oil level warning is showing. I have no way of knowing how much oil is left. I have only travelled 4000Km only on a full servicing 3 months ago.

I have burned 2 quarts of oil in the first 8,000 miles of driving my new 550i Sport. It is normal, especially if you like to drive it hard. I have been on a number of meets pushing it to the max and I often push the motor to the max on weekends, revving it for long period of time near the redline.

Bottom line: add the oil and don't worry about it.

After reading your reply I feel so much better already. Maybe its because I just fitted paddle shifts. I have been dragging the gears since then.

Will top it up tomorrow with 1 liter and monitor.

I miss the dipstick even thought its not modern. What has modern got to do with a harmless dipstick... sigh..

There is also the possiblity that the oil level sensor could be defective, had this issue and that was what the service dept suspected may be the issue.

I just topped up the oil by 1 liter. Warning gone off as expected. Now to monitor when it comes back again. If its within the month.... then the sensor could have something to do with it.

=)

I rev the V8 pretty much, and was losing oil a bit (approx 500-700gr per 10000km), the dealer said its ok, but i did not like this. On last oil change i decided to use the oil normally reccommended to M5 (Castrol 10w-60). The engine runs much smoother and quieter, and there is no oil loss what so ever. In the winter i will use 5w-40 just to be on the safe side when its cold (the Castrol TWS is really good for the engine in summer, but a little too thick for winter use).

And yes, i know, that the oil is not reccommended for Non-M5 V8-s and so on. But many are using it, and since it copes really well with different temperatures, and makes a thin layer of oil on different details to protect them, it is a really good choice for an engine that has been running over 100k km.

Over here in summerland, 5W-40 is what the workshop recommends...

I had the same warning light up at about 6000Km Im on a 2008 525i Sport.

Called the dealer they told me fill up some more oil I went to the dealer got the Castrol BMW recommends 1ltr filled half the bottle. All errors went away, the dealer did tell me all depends on driving "habits" I laughed at told her "pedal to the floor!" therefore the car will obliviously eat more oil, its like Porsche engines they are also oil hungry say the Cayenne Turbo S
