Assuming that the oil is under the front half of the car and you have ruled out engine oil,it could either be power steering fluid (pump leaking)or transmission oil (seal leaking). An inspection under the car should point to the source of the leak.

If the the oil leak is toward the middle of the car, chances are it's your trasmission oil pan that it leaking. The pan is unfortunately made of plastic so it warps over time with heat, and starts to leak. This is a very common problem on the 545/550. You'll need a new transmission oil pan, seal and of course oil to fix the problem.

My car had the came transmission pan leak, very simple straight forward fix. Good Luck!

There is cover under the engine, it is hard to say where is leak. Try to open the hood, and try to locate any leak from top. If not ....

Then you will need a ramp, take out bottom covers.... identify the leaking spot. If the area it wide, you will need to clean it. I would drive it without bottom covers.... for few miles. ( maybe days if it is a minor leak ) ... recheck.

I had the same thing happen a while back...I didn't drive my car for a few days and one day when I got home, there was a puddle of oil under it...I took it to the dealer and they said that the tranny leaked out of the seal and they fixed it under the warranty...

Most likely if the leak was from the transmission it was the mechatronics sleeve. Same thing happened with my 545i. If they just change the trans pan gasket it will leak again. Also happened to me. Make sure they do both at the same time. There is also a service bulletin out for the mechatronics sleeve as well. Hopefully you still have warranty because I was told without it I would have spent close to $1100.

yup my 04 545 did same thing and it was replaced under CPO warrantee. Service advisor informed me it was the sleeve deal in the transmission and was fixed in like three days. Good luck

Before getting crazy about how much the cost will be, just figure out what the problem is.
1. Jack the car up and have a look. If it's a significant leak, which it sounds like it is, it will be easy to see where it's coming from.
2. It's likely coming from the transmission pan or potentially a gasket seal leak in the rear transmission. The oil pan/gasket leak is easy to fix. You can go to a number of websites like bimmerspecialist and get a transmission service kit (oil pain, gaskets, etc) for about $160. If it's a differential or output flange seal, it's a bigger and more expensive job. If the oil smells super bad, it's probably gear oil from an output flange seal leak.
3. Just like anything else, don't get discourage on how much it will cost to fix until you figure out what the problem is. So many people get all worked up about how much it will cost to fix a problem and they have no idea what the problem is. Leaks are generally easy, probably just a seal or gasket of some kind.

just got my car back from the stealers on friday... if its the tranny oil then i had the same problem
I really do hope you have warranty because it ended up costing me just over $1000 to replace the oil pan gasket and mechatronic sleeve... i even bought a 3rd party extended warranty and waited 2 weeks before making a claim and they didn't cover it due to it being a pre existing problem but 1000 is better than 5k+ if you wait like i did and end up completely messin up the tranny :/ (im glad i didn't tho and hope you dont either)
